From Parents

"After studying in the Junior College (JC) for 2 months at the beginning of the year, my daughter, SY, told us she was quitting JC as she disliked the curriculum and lifestyle. She even secretly submitted her application for a diploma course in a tertiary arts institution as dancing has always been her passion. As a result, there were heated arguments between our daughter and us because we, as parents, disagreed with her choice due to the limited career prospects and other considerations of her preferred course. We had a hard time trying to reach a compromise with her as she would insist on adhering to her choice. We had sleepless nights worrying about her future prospects and similarly, we knew she was confused and worried as well.

We were at our wits' end and decided to approach Midas Compass for assistance as we believe the consultants would be able to communicate with our daughter more effectively than us since the consultants are certified career and education professionals as well as a neutral party who could understand SY's thoughts and look at the situation and issues more objectively and impartially. We also believe the consultants' broad perspectives about job markets and deep expertise in career coaching would be able to advise SY in making an informed decision so that she would not look back and regret in the future.

During the session with our daughter, Kherray tackled the issues that SY was facing with patience and good listening ears. She gave wise advice to SY and guided her to think of different ways to resolve the issues that she was facing. In addition, the advisor also analysed the pros and cons, as well as future prospects of choosing the respective courses in the various public and private tertiary institutions. SY had a clearer picture of the path that she was going to choose after speaking to the advisor. Her final decision was to pursue the only polytechnic law diploma in Singapore. As parents, we are glad and relieved as we could finally take this heavy load off our mind and we fully supported her decision. We were also relieved that we could put the heated arguments and sleepless nights to an end.

We are very grateful to Midas Compass and Kherray for being able to straighten out our daughter's thoughts and she is back to her cheerful self as she embarks on her education journey at the polytechnic with clarity and confidence that this is the right choice for her now and in the future."

From Students

"After enrolling myself into a Junior College (JC), I realised I was not happy there. Every day, I went back home exhausted, dreading to do anything except to take time off to rest. After tolerating this lifestyle for around 2 months, I decided that I could not take it anymore and would like to change my pathway. I have been very troubled ever since I made the decision to switch institutions - whether to head to a Polytechnic, or to head to my initial choice of tertiary arts school.

I shared my problems with my parents and they reached out to Midas Compass to aid in my decision making. I believe the reason was due to their experiences in this field as all along, they have been helping people from all walks of life discover the best suited career change that they desire. I then met up with the Midas Compass consultant (Kherray) and had a great talk about my situation. What I deemed the most insightful during the consultation was that Kherray was really giving her full attention towards whatever I had to say about my situation before she proceeded to give her opinion, with my interest in mind. She really went in depth to make me ponder about which pathway would benefit me the most and at the same time ensure that I would enjoy the route I chose unlike when I was in JC. She also gave me a reality check towards the expectations of what society wants in this day and age in order for me to get a stable job and income in future - my qualifications needed, career prospects, etc.

Hence, I decided to give it a shot and apply for a diploma course in a polytechnic in the end as I know this choice would be one that would benefit me in future. Last but not least, Kherray took her own time out to analyse my educational options to help me weigh the pros and cons of each choice available, which I am really grateful for! I did not regret consulting her at all because I got so much out of it and it really guided me into moving forward from the situation that I was stuck in for quite some time."
